The Hanging Garden Stole is designed for lace to fingering weight yarn and takes 1,200 yards of yarn for the length designated in the pattern (12 repeats of the main lace chart). The sample shown above is done in Lorna’s Laces Helen’s Lace (50% silk, 50% wool, 1200 yds/4 oz.) in the Cedar colorway. This sample required one 4 oz. skein. If a fingering weight yarn is used for the stole, fewer repeats of the lace chart may be required (and slightly less yarn, of course). This pattern features a simple technique to add beads to the cast on and bind off rows. It requires 70 beads. I recommend either size 6/0 glass seed beads, or a novelty bead such as the wavy leaf drop beads shown or Japanese megatama beads. Beads shown are available from Earth Faire. This pattern includes many useful hints and tips gleaned from the 2006 knitalong on the SiviaHardingKnits list. Dimensions: 22 " wide, 80" long |
